Free Kinneil calendars up for grabs

LOCAL history lovers are being given the chance to obtain a 2007 calendar showcasing Kinneil Estate in Bo’ness.

The calendar can be downloaded for free from the website http://www.kinneil.org.uk and printed out using any home colour printer.

The idea is the brainchild of The Friends of Kinneil, set up last May to promote and enhance the historic estate.

Friends chairman Adrian Mahoney said: “We’ve already produced postcards, notelets and fridge magnets of Kinneil – all on sale in Kinneil Museum – but weren’t able to print a proper calendar in time for Christmas.

“To make up for this, we’ve produced a free, downloadable version that anyone in the world can access. All you need is a connection to the internet and the free Adobe Acrobat software, which is pre-installed in most home computers. Just log onto our website – http://www.kinneil.org.uk – and follow the link to download the calendar.”

He added: “It’s a small way of saying thank you to the local community for all their support and encouragement over the past year.”

The Friends of Kinneil is proposing a busy programme of events for 2007.

In February, the group will run a members’ talk on the history of Kinneil Estate and is also planning to launch an art/photography competition in the next few weeks.

“We’re also hoping to help Historic Scotland re-open Kinneil House to visitors in the spring,” said Adrian. “The three openings we were involved in over the autumn were very successful and we hope to build on this interest in the coming year.

“And, of course, we’ll be continuing our work to encourage more people to visit the historic Kinneil Museum and the rest of the parkland.”

The museum is located in the 17th century stable block of Kinneil House and acts as an interpretative centre for the surrounding estate.

Antoninus Pius, St Serf, Mary, Queen of Scots and James Watt are among the many historical characters associated with the area. The museum is normally open Monday to Saturday from 12.30 p.m. to 4 p.m. -although restricted opening hours have been applied over the Christmas and New Year period.
