Staff raise £5000 for leprosy charity

CARING workers at Sun’s plant in Linlithgow have helped raise more than £5,000 for the leprosy aid charity, Lepra.

Staff sponsored colleague Andy Drummond (45), who undertook a 10-day trek through Nepal to raise the cash.

In June, two of the Nepalese Sherpas who guided Andy dropped into the Sun plant in Scotland to visit the charity walker – and say thanks to kind-hearted workers.

Andy, a support technician, from Harthill, Lanarkshire, said: “I’m delighted that we managed to raise so much money for charity. The walk was a real adventure and one I’ll never forget.”

Andy travelled to Nepal in April this year. Sponsored excursions like his are one of the many ways people can actively raise money for Lepra.

Latest statistics suggest that there are still more than two million people worldwide who are affected by leprosy and a further four million who have suffered disabilities as a result of the disease.

Lepra aims to eradicate the disease and help its victims. The charity also claims it costs just ?21 to cure one person of leprosy. To find out more about Lepra, visit www.lepra.org.uk
