Kids get a buzz out of Sun

A GROUP of West Lothian schoolchildren have had a fun trip to cinema – to discover how a local company helped bring Buzz Lightyear to the silver screen.

Youngsters from the “after school club” at Broxburn Family and Community Development Centre were given the all-expenses trip to see “Toy Story 2”.

The treat was organised by Sun Microsystems in Linlithgow. The company manufactured the high-powered computers which were needed to create the film.

The original Toy Story, launched in 1995, made history by being the first animated feature film created entirely using computers. Its follow-up – which has taken the UK box office by storm – follows the fortunes of toy spaceman Buzz Lightyear, voiced by Tim Allen, and his cowboy pal Woody (Tom Hanks) along with a host of new characters.

Sun employee Kevin Hutton said: “We’re incredibly proud of Sun’s role in bringing the new Toy Story film to the big screen. And we were delighted to send some of the children from the family centre to see the film.”

The centre’s community education worker, Amanda Godsell, said: “We enjoy a good relationship with the Sun plant in Linlithgow and we were extremely pleased to help arrange this fun trip to the cinema for some of the children. It was a great treat.”

The “Toy Story” trip is one of the many activities organised by Sun each year to help the West Lothian community. For more information about Sun, visit the company’s website at http://www.sun.com/scotland
